All your Content in one location
I’m sure that most of you that read this, already know what it is and what it does, but for those who don’t here is a quick explanation and description of Plex.
Plex is a server application which is installed or can be installed on virtually any machine, Windows PC, Mac, Linux, NAS etc. Once plex is setup one can organize Video, Music and Photo libraries from the host computer (or server) these libraries can then be accessed from a Plex client, from your smart TV, smartphone or game console, almost any device with a web browser can stream Plex content.
Plex Channels or Plugins.
Plex Plugins can scrape web pages for Video, Music and Photo content, If you have Plex, you can download official plugins from the Plex App Store, now the Plex store will only house plugins that do not break any copy write laws.
Unsupported Plugins, on the other hand, can stream High Definition movies and TV shows, most of which are not even out yet.
Let me explain how these plugins work so that the next time you find yourself stuck with no content when it was working perfectly fine last night and now nothing works, you know why it doesn’t work and how to fix it.
Like I mentioned before, Plex Plugins scrape content from websites, some plugins will scrape a large list of sites, some will only scrape one, it all depends on it’s purpose. Most site owners are unaware that these plugins even exist or have nothing to do with the plugin development, so when the web developer changes something on the website, it then breaks the plugin, the writer of the plugin then needs to write new code in order to fix the plugin if even possible depending on the change made by the web developer.
Keep in mind that these websites do change from time to time but not that often so these plugins should work most of the time.
I have been using Plex for over five years now, and love it! I learned about it when purchasing a smart TV in 2011, it came with instructions on how to install and setup Plex to stream content to the TV. And now although my TV is becoming a little outdated it still works great! Library, Plugins and all.
