Add subtitles to any movie in your Plex library.
When you rip or download a movie it doesn’t come with subtitles, even the movies in English might have scenes in other languages, that’s why it’s important to set up your subtitle agent in Plex.
I use the default agent in Plex but you can download more agents with more options.
For the purpose of this tutorial, we will keep it simple.
- Open Plex by double-clicking the icon down in the system tray
- Click the Tools icon at the top, Server, and Show Advanced
- On the menu to the left click Agents, then on the right click, Plex Movie, check OpenSubtitles.org and click the gear
- Go to opensubtitles.org and create a free account
Log into OpenSubtitles.org through plex once you click the little gear, select your top three languages.
- The last step is to re-analyze your library so that Plex can scan all your movies and download the necessary subtitles. If you have a new movie added to your collection and would like to scan just that one movie, click the three little dots on the movie poster and Analyze
- to activate your subtitles, this depends on the device you are using to stream the movie, on my Smart TV there is a quick menu button that brings up the subtitles, on the Apple TV 3 running PlexConnect, pause the movie then hold select, and a menu is displayed, select CC.
The best way to test your new subtitles is by testing the movie in your Plex web client, select your movie and in the details page nest to subtitles select your subtitle.
